A private driver guide will meet guests in the morning at Rome airport, and he will head north into charming Umbria, about an hour and a half drive. First stop in Orvieto, an astounding ancient town that rests on a volcanic tufa plateau high above the valley below. Drive along the craggy wall, higher and higher until you reach the spectacular Duomo, where a private guided walking tour will begin. The Duomo is simply gorgeous and one of Italy’s finest churches, dazzling and impressive. Guests will explore the small historic center with their friendly guide, including a strange and fascinating visit to “underground Orvieto”, a series of Etruscan caves and wine cellars. After the sightseeing in the morning at Orvieto, guests will head to their first wine estate of the tour, to Decugnano Dei Barbi in Fossatello di Corbar, about half an hour from Orvieto. Lunch will be at their elegant Villa Barbi.

A wonderful, beautiful place to start a wine tour of Umbria! In the late afternoon, the driver will take guests to a unique place in which live a totalizing  experience for mind, body and spirit: an Eco Luxury Hermitage located at Parrano, an isolated spot where guests will breathe and sense the atmosphere characteristic of Umbrian hermit places, their base for the next few nights. Relax in the Yoga room and enjoy dinner in the Refectory of the hermitage, which is one of the first “Digital Detox” hotels in Italy: guests will taste recipes from monastic Mediterranean tradition. Overnight in the hotel.

VIP Wine Tastings at Castello della Sala

Guests will visit two of Umbria’s most important and historic towns – Perugia and Assisi. The driver will transfer them in the morning from Parrano to the bustling university town of Perugia. Enroute, they will stop at Castello della Sala wine estate, a magnificent medieval manor with 500 hectares of land, 170 of which are planted with vineyards. Visit this delightful estate, touring the vineyards and cellars and tasting their IGT Cervaro della Sala and IGT Pinot Nero, white and red wines. Guests will taste some local cheeses and Umbrian salamis with their wines, kind of a wine tasting hearty breakfast!

At Perugia guests will enjoy some free time at Perugia to check out the shops, take a stroll, have a coffee. They will notice many students there and in fact, Perugia is home to the Università per Stranieri (Italy’s biggest language school, attracting thousands of foreign students every year). Perugia is also home to Perugina (the eponymous chocolate “Baci” kisses) and the annual chocolate festival. Lunch will follow in Perugia’s “Centro Storico” (old town) at the Antica Trattoria San Lorenzo, where chef Simone Ciccotti creates traditional Umbrian cuisine with innovative touches such as his versions of Ravioli di Scampo (Ravioli stuffed with scampi), Cappelletti all’acqua di tartufo bianco (pasta with white truffle), and Tagliata di Bue Fassone in gremolata di tartufo (beef with black truffle).

After lunch, next visit will be to Assisi, where Saint Francis of Assisi is buried in the monumental Basilica di San Francesco. With their own private art guide, guests will tour this wonderful village, seeing Giotto’s frescoes in the basilica, as well as the Romanesque-Gothic San Pietro church and the Piazza del Comune. In the late afternoon, return to Parrano. Free evening in the hamlet.

Multisensorial experience at Torgiano

After breakfast in hotel, the chauffeur will escort guests at Torgiano, where they will enjoy a private visit of the MUVIT – The Torgiano Wine Museumrecommended by The New York Times as the Italy’s best wine museum. Set up in 1974 by the Lungarotti family of winemakers, this museum is a must-see for lovers of art, culture and fine living who wish to know about or discover more deeply the history and civilization of wine.

The Giorgio Lungarotti winery will be the next stop. Guests will visit the estate and enjoy a tasting of their most famous wines including their multi-awarded Rubesco red wine DOCG. The tasting will accompanied by Umbrian bread and Lungarotti extra virgin olive oil. Guests will also enjoy a guided tour of the balsamic aging cellar, where Lungarotti family has been producing balsamic condiment since 1980.

Lunch will follow in a gourmet restaurant of a Wine Resort located in Torgiano countryside. After a three course traditional Umbrian lunch, guests will enjoy 2 hours of total relax in the Wine Therapy Spa of the resort, the only one in Umbria dedicated to wine therapy. In the afternoon, return to Parrano.

Dinner in Michelin 2-star restaurant immersed in the nature – just 40 minutes’ drive from the hotel – confirmed also in 2019 as top restaurant in Umbria Region, with 3 salted courses from the “à la carte” Tradition, Emotion menù and 3 wine glasses pairing. Enjoy!
